Saying Goodbye / Reaching the Zenith

I know that I've been absent lately, and I know that there's a lot happening around me; so I'm here to clear the air, gain some ground, and let you all know why I've been so quiet and clandestine. Without going into the raw specifics (because I assure you, the reason, when you come to know of it, will be worth it); Dylan In The City is closing. Saying goodbye to you - amazing readers, blogosphere, and all the opportunities that have come with a combination of my blog, my Hairstyling career, and some of the incredible friends, artists, and entrepreneurs I've met along the way. But don't fret! I'm not fading into obscurity (well, maybe I have been a little bit lately, haha!) I'm rather just on the road to something greater, newer, and inherently better.

As you may have read in my earlier post, my career and my focus in the Fashion Industry is about to take a drastic shift. A shift for me, my industry, my clientele, and everything I've built so far. In the midst of this shift I have come to the conclusion that I will have the added benefit of focusing more on my writing, my editorial skills; all the while learning and building on this new path away from Hair. That being said, Dylan In The City isn't closing for just any reason; it's evolving and giving way to something much greater. Something that I've been working on so passionately that it's kept me away from here; which may account for quietness. Well, that and all this transition.

Come Fall 2013, expect a big, new, wonderful pop from me as I launch a brand new online venture: Zenith. The apex, the highest point, the best, the ultimate, the vista, the absolute. Zenith will be the personification of those iconic and powerful words. In what sense I can't say yet, because I'd rather not spoil the surprise; but I'm hoping that you, and many more, will join me in celebrating it. It will be greater than a personalized blog; it will be powerful, interesting, and a collaborative congregation of people who simply love art. What's not to adore? I'll be working on it all throughout the Summer, and I will be updating it's progress as usual on my many Social outlets / @TheDylanDias. I am so, so, so excited to start my new path that Zenith seemed the best way to express it. This time it counts. Fashion is my world, beauty is my world, creativity is my world - it's my Zenith. What's yours?

xoxo

New Lifestyle Blog / #DylanInTheWorld

Good morning blogosphere, friends, strangers, and Fashion-lovers!

I'd like to tell you about an exciting new project I've just started. While maintaining all that I love, create, and cover in Fashion, I wanted to introduce a new blog with a different voice; and so was born - DylanInTheWorld.

DylanInTheWorld is meant to be a lifestyle blog that reflects many of my passions in life beyond just Fashion and Beauty alone; with a wide focus on varied Art, Literature, Film, Cooking, Travel, and Humanism. I want to be able to create an interactive portrayal of the incredible things, people, places, moments, movements - literally anything that drives me personally - into a personable, human blog. But I am also hoping that the blog acts as a candid guide, or mirror, of my growth as a person; showcasing not only that which strikes me positively, but also the challenges that I may face along the way. It's about me, it's about us, and it's about the world we live in.

My first post is already up, and it outlines one of the biggest changes I've made so far this year. I'd love for you stop by, be inspired, read my journey, and leave your thoughts. Without saying too much more on a blog devoted to Fashion, thanks for taking the time ♥

Peace+Love

MusicInTheCity / Chromeo, Dirty Vegas, and Mercedes-Benz

Winter is already looking more and more exciting, as it always is, here in Toronto! I just got word of an exciting, free concert that will be taking place on Wednesday, November 21st right here in the city featuring some incredible talent.

Mercedes-Benz, as part of their B-Class Canadian Launch, is hosting a night of electric excitement featuring MontrĂ©al-based, Canadian talent, Chromeo, as well as the hugely successful Dirty Vegas. Thoughtfully dubbed B-Scene, the event will welcome guests to a fantastic evening fusing inspired street-art with the enigmatic, permeating beats of these two powerhouse groups. Excited? We are!

But! There's only one way to get in. If you want to be a part of the B-Class Movement, you need to register here. The Sound Academy is huge, but has limited capacity, and selection will occur lottery style! A very cool way to make the entire evening even more exclusive! Registration has been open since November 7th and will continue until the 19th - that means you only have a couple of days left! What are you waiting for? Remember, the whole thing is free! All you have to do is register, show up, and be fabulous. And it's all thanks to the new girl in town, B-Class by Mercedes-Benz.

Buzz it!

Be seen with B-Scene! / #BeScene

Workman Arts Presents: Being SCENE at The Gladstone

I recently had the opportunity and wonderful privilege to attend Workman Arts' Annual Being SCENE Exhibition at the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto. To say the absolute least it was a spiritual feast of inspiration, artistic voice, and stunning visuals.

Workman Arts is a fantastic company that, for many years, has celebrated and nurtured the artistic potential and expression of real artists who have lived experience with mental illness and addiction; offering supportive atmospheres, community projects, and life-changing, shared experiences to birth and mold healthy, successful lives. Being SCENE aims to break down the barriers that traditional society uses to define these incredible people; offering a more realistic understanding of those living with and healing from mental illness and addiction, as well as a soulful view into their hearts and minds as true artists and their creative evolution.

I attended the beautiful exhibition with one of my best friends, Lisa, and from the very beginning we were just awe-inspired at the raw talent, beautiful messages, and incredible imagery of many of these artists. One of my great designer friends, Sheri STRanger (whom you no doubt recognized at our fantastic Le POP! Event not too long ago) was also showing one of her beautiful acrylic works at the exhibition that evening.

Mark Belvedere, Restoration

Barbara Greene Mann's beautiful work

Utter Logic, Utterance of Addiction

Utter Logic, Utterance of Addiction
This was one of my favourite pieces as the exhibition. It was textural and bold, but it contained a narrative within it, like  a living piece. It left you with a message each time you read it, and it evoked the transformative growth of not only addiction, but life itself, at every, roughed edge.

Steven Charney, Embroidery

Claudette Abrams, Duality
This is a stunning piece of photography. It almost looks like a baroque painting.

Jace Traz, Bonerland #2
Another favourite of mine. It's whimsical and incredibly suggestive, to say the least, but it's the depth of the piece that is astounding. A new image and a new shape that delves further and further into the canvas at every corner. From a distance it is matte and balanced, like an abstract texture, but it evolves as you move closer and around it. I can't even imagine the amount of time it must have taken to produce such a piece using one medium; a pen.

Apanaki, The Egungun
One of the most visually stunning pieces of the entire exhibition. It blitzed out of the corner of my eye and solidified an entire wing. The texture, fabric, colour, and sequence were a radiant display of fantastic detail and craftsmanship.

STRanger, Punnett

Joey Dammit!

The Gladstone also happened to be hosting an exhibition on the second level called iSEAMONSTER which I can only describe as a female artist collaborative, as per the promotional poster. I couldn't hang around long enough to find out if there was an origin to some of these artists, but I did get the chance to quickly snap some of the most beautiful sketches and paintings that I saw down there. Really astounding work as well; my favourites would have to be the fashion, editorial-like penciled pieces of manipulated photography. Such animalistic images, and so beautifully composed.

Like I said, a feast. We had a wonderful evening. Thank you Workman Arts!
